JOB VACANCY – NURSING TEAM SUPERVISOR – FULL TIME – 100%

Title:                         NURSING TEAM SUPERVISOR

Direct Reports:       MIDWIFE ACTIVITY MANAGER (MWAM)

Location:                  LIWALE, LINDI

MAIN PURPOSE

Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

As integrated project MSF is working in collaboration with MOH staff of 7 selected health facilities in the disctrict. The Nursing Team Supervisor is expected to collaborate and follow the nursing activities in three health centres and four dispensaries. As such:

o  Together with MOH staff ensure the implementation and use of protocals, guidelines, algorithms of BEmONC and CEmONC etc in the health centres and Dispensaries

o  Improve the sterilization techniques of medical equipment mostly in the health Centres and Dispensaries o Facilitate and follow the waste segregation and disposal in the health centres and dispensaries, participate in trainings together with HP supervisor and MWAM

o  Develops a plan for training of the Nursing staff according to an evaluation of competencies and needs and carries it out in accordance with the set plan.

o  Meets with the MWAM on a regular basis to give updates on the status of the medical activities supported by MSF in MOH facilities and establish objectives for the coming period.

o  Assist in OPD patient triage, management of children under 5yrs of age in OPD and IPD  o Collect medical data of respective health facilities and submit to supervisor on time o In consultation with MWAM plan(schedule) for regular visits of the health centers and dispensaries o Collaborates with the health promotion (HP) supervisor to elaborate a strategy for SRH and children under 5yrs with focus in these two activities.

o  Supervising the proper distribution of drugs and use of materials, keeping track of consumption patterns and supply orders, and monitoring inventories, together with the MWAM, MOH matrons/ Patrons and other health facility in charge. Training the matron/Patron and health facility in charge in order to ensure having minimum levels of stock to carry out the activities of the project and a rational and appropriate use of material resources.

o  In collaboration with pharmacy supervisor, follow up of availability of medical supplies to respective health facilities and facilitate MSF gap filling

o  In collaboration with the MoH interlocutors, identify referral challenges and help to define the referral criteria, policies and pathways to support and improve the system

 

Main responsibilities:

o  Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e. perform as a nurse or anaesthetist, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience

o  Supervising, promoting, implementing and following up the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection prevention and control measures and ensuring other protocols and procedures in the medical premises are maintained and high standards of hygiene in the working environment are followed by his/her team in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her speciality

o  Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality

o  Carry out and/or supervise the (decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.)in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness

o  Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service

o  Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking

o  Patient’s right to privacy and confidentiality is always respected o Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point o Perform any other related task as maybe requested by MWAM or PMR

 

Minimum Educational Qualification:

o  Specialty (Registered Nurse midwifery,) diploma essential

 

Experience:  

o  Essential 2 years of previous experience.

o  Having worked in NGO’s is desirable

 

Knowledge: 

o  Essential computer literacy (word, excel, internet)

 

Languages:

  •   Knowledge of both English and Kiswahili is mandatory.
